Philip R. Roberts, 79, Of Norwalk, Founder, Cushing & Roberts Insurance

NORWALK, Conn. - Philip R. Roberts of Norwalk died Oct. 25. He was 79.

Roberts was born in Philadelphia, to Melville Parker Roberts Sr. and Marguerite Reimann Roberts, he grew up in Glenbrook and attended Stamford High School. He served in the Korean conflict as an Army medic based in France. After his discharge, he attended the University of Connecticut and graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration. He began his career with the Shepard Insurance Agency in Stamford and soon after founded Cushing & Roberts Insurance. He sold his business to Shoff Darby Insurance in 1999 and continued working for them until 2007. He settled in the Pine Point Association of Rowayton.

Roberts is survived by his longtime companion, Karen Hurley; brother, Dr. Melville P. Roberts Jr.; a niece and nephews; and seven great-nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 at the United Church of Rowayton with a reception following immediately at the church.
