NORWALK, Conn. – Patricia (Pat) Zakhar, 73, of Norwalk, died Friday, Aug. 7.
Zakhar was born in New York Jan. 11, 1942, daughter of the late Austin and Katherine (Fox) Gehan.
She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1959 and Danbury State Teacher’s College. At the beginning of her career, she worked as a teacher for the Norwalk Public School system. She moved on to work for the Norwalk Tax Assessor’s office after raising two children and retired from there. She also worked as a children’s aide for All Saints Day Care and had a position with Hallmark Cards. She enjoyed spending her time with her family, friends and two cats. She spent her spare time traveling and working on homemade crafts.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Hess (Scott) of Norwalk; her son, Greg Zakhar of Norwalk; a brother and sister-in-law of Danbury, Connecticut; a sister and brother-in-law of North Carolina; a sister-in-law of Oakdale, Connecticut; a grandson of Bethel, Connecticut; a granddaughter of Norwalk; and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, William Zakhar, and a brother predeceased her.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, Aug. 13 from 5-8 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk.
