Norwalk Fourth-Grader Isabella Icatar Dies at 9

NORWALK, Conn. – Isabella Emma Icatar of Norwalk died Friday, Sept. 21, at her home, surrounded by her family. A fourth-grader at Marvin Elementary School, she was 9. 

Born Aug. 10, 2003, Isabella was the daughter of Roneil Icatar and Julianne Yantachka Icatar.  Isabella loved to read, dance, sing and had a great sense of humor, her family said. 

Isabella was diagnosed with brain cancer on Nov. 17, 2008, and fought her illness for almost four years. Despite growing physical limitations, her spirit continued to shine and inspire others, her family said. 

She is survived by her parents; a sister, Annalise; a brother, Nathaniel; her grandparents, Fe Icatar, Michael and Janet Yantachka; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her grandfather, Emmanuel Icatar. 

Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Norwalk. Burial will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park in Stamford. All visitors are encouraged to wear bright, vivid colors since Isabella loved rainbows. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pediatric Brain Tumor FoundationKids v. Cancer and Musella Foundation.
