Nicolina Vona, 86, Norwalk Leather Factory Worker

NORWALK, Conn. – Nicolina Vona of Norwalk died Sunday, July 22. She was 86. 

Born Nov. 8, 1925, in Italy, she was the daughter of Dominico and Angela Paniccia Palmieri. Vona ran a farm and household in Italy with her late husband, Sebastiano Vona, before emigrating to the U.S. in 1968. 

She then took a job in a leather factory, where she worked for more than 20 years. Vona's family said that she was a leader of her family who gave good advice, kept the family close and was very devoted to her faith. 

Vona is survived by two sons, Gino (Maria) Vona Sr., of Fairfield, and Nick (Antonietta) Vona, of Wilton; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Church in Norwalk. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan.
