WESTPORT, Conn. — Miriam Weinstein, the mother of filmmakers Harvey and Bob Weinstein who inspired the name of their first film company, Miramax, died Wednesday at her home in Westport, according to the New York Times.

She was 90.

In the late 1970s, using profits from their concert promotion business, the Weinstein brothers created a small independent film distribution company that they called Miramax. It was named in honor of their parents by combining their names, Miriam and Max.
