Michael Marco Vagnone, 85, Of Norwalk, Retired From Department Of Defense

NORWALK, Conn. - Michael Marco Vagnone, a longtime resident of Norwalk, died Wednesday, June 5. He was 85.

Vagnone was born June 4, 1928, in Settefrati, Italy, to Gerardo and Maria (Socci) Vagnone. He served in the U.S. Army for several years based in Camp Polk Louisiana and Fort Drum New York. He then received an Associates Degree in Engineering and worked at Sikorsky Aircraft. After Sikorsky Aircraft, he accepted a position with the U.S. Department of Defense as a supervisor overseeing the manufacturing and completion of the Hubble Space Telescope. He was also involved in the NASA Space Shuttle Program. He retired from the Department of Defense in 1995.

Vagnone is survived by his wife, Antoinette (Toni Macari); daughters, Andrea (John) Schneider of Trumbull, Maria (Rich) Cohen of Norwalk; three grandsons; sisters, Antoinette DiPreta and Louise Tuomey (Jerry); brother-in-law, John Macari (Susan); sisters-in-law, Nancy Macari and Eleanor Macari; many nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Patsy Vagnone; sister-in-law, Antoinette; sisters, Catherine Mastronardi; and brothers-in-law, Joseph Mastronardi and Rosino DiPreta.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 10 at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave., Norwalk. Interment will follow at St. Mary's - St. John's Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave., Norwalk.
