Melvin T. Taverner, Of Norwalk, 92, World War II Veteran

NORWALK, Conn. – Melvin T. Taverner, of Norwalk, died on Sunday, March 15, in Autumn Lake Senior Living in Norwalk. He was 92.

Born in Staten Island, N.Y., he was the son of Melvin and Anna Mulligan Taverner. Taverner had been a Norwalk resident since 1976 and prior to retirement, he worked for Texaco/Oil as an accountant. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

Surviving are his wife, his children, Anne Marie Cotter and her husband, Edward, of Norwalk; and Richard Taverner and his wife, Virginia, of Bridgeport; and six grandchildren.

Taverner was predeceased by his wife, Anne Moran Taverner; a grandson; and two brothers.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, at 10 a.m. in St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave., Norwalk.
