Mary Marino, Of Norwalk, 98

NORWALK, Conn. -- Mary (D’Amato) Somers Marino, of Norwalk, died at home on Friday, Jan. 30. She was 98.

Born in New Milford, Conn., the daughter of the late Sabato and Anna D’Amato, Mary was the wife of the late Alfred H. Somers Jr. and Joseph Marino.

She worked for many years in the family business, Somers & Somers Paint Store in South Norwalk and was a member of Shorehaven Golf Club for 60 years.

Mary was a dancer in her youth, performing at Silvermine Playhouse and The Theater in the Woods. She was a member of the Norwalk Women’s Club and enjoyed traveling extensively. She also volunteered for the Darien, Greenwich Welcome Center and the Republican Party.

Mary is survived by two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Alfred (Elizabeth) Somers III and Mrs. David (Judith) Somers Sr.; five grandchildren Thomas and Joyce Somers, David Somers Jr., Amy (James) DePasquale and Beth (Anthony) Malizia; three cherished great-grandchildren Wesley Somers, David Somers III and Jenna DePasquale; a great-great-grandson Aiden Somers; stepson Lewis (Nancy) Marino; five step-grandchildren and their families; a sister Ann Artell and two sisters in-law Mrs. Victor (Marion) D’Amato and Mrs. John (Geraldine) D’Amato, as well as several nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Alfred Somers III and David Somers Sr.; grandson Christopher Somers; granddaughter Dawn Somers and two brothers, Victor and John D’Amato.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave. in Norwalk with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave. in Norwalk. Mary’s family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk.
