Mendence was born April 11, 1933, in St. Albans, Vt., daughter of Urgel and Gertrude (Gilman) St. Denis, she was a graduate of the Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans. She was a member of the American Legion Post 12, and New Horizons at St. Matthew Church.
Mendence is survived by her husband, Robert “Mendy” Mendence; children, Valerie, Lauren, Albert, Robert Jr., Dennis and Margaret Mendence; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and brother, John St. Denis. She was predeceased by her parents; and sister, Marguerite Anne Schultz. Calling hours are Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 at St. Matthew Church followed by burial with military honors at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk.
