Marguerite 'Marge' Walmark, 84, Of Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. -- Marguerite “Marge” Walmark, died Monday, June 8, at The Jewish Home in Fairfield. She was 84. 

She was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Norwalk, to Max and Jennie Schachter.

She graduated from New Haven State Teachers College magna cum laude, majoring in early childhood education. She taught kindergarten through third-grade in the Norwalk public schools. She taught Saturday school at Temple Israel in Westport.

She was a licensed real estate agent for Englander Real Estate, William Raveis and William Pitt, both of Westport.

Upon retirement from real estate, she volunteered at Fox Run Elementary School in Norwalk.

She was predeceased by Earl, her husband of 51 years. They began married life in Norwalk and raised their family in Wilton, Westport and Weston.

A lover of the arts, especially opera, the philharmonic and Broadway, she enjoyed numerous cultural opportunities in the tristate area. 

She and her husband loved to travel, having visited many continents, both together and with family and friends. 

She is survived by her children, Reid (Helen) of Wallingford, Amy Walmark Karp (Aron) of Norwalk and Michael (Allison Ziering) of Westport; her grandchildren, Ariel Walmark, Dana Karp, and Ethan and Eliza Walmark; her great-grandchildren, Layla, Miles and Max; and her brother, Joseph Schachter of Westport.

In addition to her husband, she also was predeceased by her brother Sylvan "Arthur" Schachter.

Services were Thursday at 10 a.m. at Congregation Beth El, 109 East Ave., Norwalk. Burial followed at Temple Shalom/Independent Hebrew Society Cemetery, 143 Richards Ave., Norwalk.

The family will receive visitors Thursday afternoon and evening, Friday and Sunday, from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. at the home of Michael and Allison Walmark, 13 Rockyfield Road, Westport.

There is no Shiva on Saturday, but visitors are welcome from 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
