NORWALK, Conn. – Leah Thelma Hirsch, a longtime Norwalk resident, died Oct. 13 at Norwalk Hospital. She was 83.
A 43-year resident of Norwalk, she was married to Hyman Hirsch. She received an associate's degree in her 50s and worked as a bookkeeper for many years. Hirsch served as a member of Haddasah and Temple Beth-El's Sisterhood.
She also volunteered at the local soup kitchen, worked as an usher at several community theaters and participated in Life Time Learners. In addition to her volunteer work, Hirsch enjoyed needlepoint.
She was predeceased by her husband.
She is survived by two children, Timothy Jay Hirsch and Francine Joan Castle; a sister, Celia (Marvin) Strow, of Long Island, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Eva Cassas, of New York; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; a nephew and many nieces.
Services were held Tuesday at Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Institute for Cancer Research, 1759 R Street NW, Washington, DC 20009.
