Lawrence Murray, 70, Longtime Norwalk Resident

NORWALK, Conn. - Lawrence “Larry” Murray, longtime resident of Norwalk, died May 31. He was 70.

Murray was born in Limerick City, Ireland, son of Christina and Lawrence Murray Sr. He was educated by the Christian Brother Schools in Ireland. In 1961 he immigrated to the USA and in 1968 he became a citizen. In his early years, he worked for Howard Toms Tree Surgeons in New Canaan. He also worked in the Highway Dept. for the town of New Canaan, from which he later retired.

After retiring from the Town of New Canaan, Murray devoted most of his retirement volunteering at St. Mary Church in Norwalk. In 2009, he was awarded the St. Augustine Medal of Service by the most Reverend William E. Lori, Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport.

Murray is survived by his brother, Joseph of Norwalk; sisters, Christine Zoldak of Newburgh, N.Y., Rita Murray of Bowling Green, Ky., and Patricia Quinn of Limerick City, Ireland; brother-in-law, Salvador Clancy of Norwalk; nephews and a niece; grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.

Calling hours will be held Monday, June 3, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 4, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary Church, 669 West Ave., Norwalk. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave., Norwalk.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Murray’s memory be made to St. Mary Church.
