Joseph DellaVentura, 87, Of Norwalk, Army Veteran

NORWALK, Conn. -- Joseph DellaVentura, a former resident of Stamford, died on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Norwalk Hospital. He was 87.

He was born in Stamford on Dec. 22, 1927, to Joseph and Jennie Monda DellaVentura. DellaVentura was employed with the City of Stamford as a foreman in the Maintenance Department for many years before retiring in 1991. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II. 

He is survived by his children, Jo Ann DellaVentura of Bethel; Michael A. DellaVentura of Stratford; Diane M. DellaVentura Smith of Bethel; Sandralee M. Mayfield Ginicola of Norwalk; Lucille F. Mayfield Ofiero of Bethel; his sister, Rose DellaVentura Giordano of Stamford; and his longtime companion, Lucy Scofield and her children.

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

DellaVentura was predeceased by his wife, Faye Sagnelli DellaVentura; a son Joseph M. DellaVentura; a sister and a brother. 

Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave. in Stamford on Thursday, Jan. 22 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a prayer service to be held at 5 p.m. Interment will be private.
