John 'Phil' Sullivan, 88, Lifelong Norwalk Resident, Mail Carrier

NORWALK, Conn. - John “Phil” Sullivan of Norwalk died Monday, Feb. 3. He was 88.

Sullivan was born in Norwalk; son of Michael and Irene Smith Sullivan. He was a lifelong Norwalk resident and a retired letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, with 36 years of service.

He was a graduate of Norwalk High School, Class of 1943, and was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a 67-year member of the Frank C. Godfrey, Post 12, American Legion.

Sullivan is survived by his nephews, John M. Sullivan, of Shelton, John L. Sullivan, of Norwalk, Joseph M. Sullivan, of Cooper City, Fla., and James F. Sullivan, of Venice, Fla. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Alice S. Rooney; and brothers, Francis J. Sullivan and Joseph M. Sullivan.

Calling hours are Thursday, Feb. 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m. in St. Philip Church, 1 Father Conlon Place, Norwalk. Burial with military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery, Richards Avenue, Norwalk.
