John 'Jack' Ryan, 81, Norwalk Newspaper Manager

NORWALK, Conn. – John "Jack" H. Ryan of Norwalk died Jan. 6 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 81.

Born Sept. 6, 1931, in Norwalk, he was the son of Leo and Marguerite O’Keefe Ryan. He worked as a salesman at Metlife Insurance for 20 years. More recently, he served as a district manager for The Hour newspaper for more than 13 years.

A graduate of Norwalk High School, he was vice president of his class and helped bring the football team to the 1948 state championship. He was married for 61 years to Livia Giordano Ryan, who survives him.

Ryan was named to the Norwalk Old Timers in 2000. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, his family said.

He is survived by a daughter, Katharine (Manny) Simoes, of Norwalk; a son, Jack (Debbie) Ryan, of Farmington, Conn.; a brother, Robert Ryan; a sister, Patricia Currie; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Leo and Kenneth Ryan.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Magner Funeral Home in Norwalk. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Jerome Church in Norwalk. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.

Wow. Sad to hear. I used to deliver the Hour and he was my first boss.. If you could call it that. It brings back good memories from 25 years ago seeing his name.
