John J. Honnessy, 86, Of Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. - John J. Honnessy of Norwalk died Saturday, Feb. 8. He was 86.

Honnessy was born April 22, 1927, in Norwalk; son of Charles and Rose Honnessy. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and upon discharge, returned to Norwalk and purchased the family business from his father which was located at 41 Railroad Ave. He operated this business for 21 years and later became general manager of the Second District Water Department in 1970. He held this office until his retirement in 1986. he was chairman of the Ward B Democratic Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Democratic Town Committee, a member of the Building Committee of the Norwalk Court System, and was a police commissioner. He was a life member of the South Norwalk Boat Club and was elected president of the Shorefront Park Improvement Assoc. for five consecutive years.

Honnessy is survived by his daughters, Delene Dominick and Mary Ann Tamburri (Joseph); three grandchildren; brother-in-law, Joseph Delia (Mary); and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by her parents; wife, Antoinette Delia Honnessy; brother, Joseph; and sisters, Alyce Mills, Elizabeth (Bette) DeLallo, and Lee McPhee.

Calling hours are Thursday, Feb. 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14 at the funeral. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery.
