John J. Collins, 89, Lifelong Norwalk Resident, Retired From Snet

NORWALK, Conn. - John J. “Jack” Collins of Norwalk died Saturday, May 11. He was 89.

Collins was born June 25, 1923, in Norwalk, son of James and Helen Mangan Collins. He attended local schools, served in the U.S. Coast Guard and retired from SNET. He was a member of the Silvermine Golf Club, the South Norwalk Boat Club, the YMCA and the Retired Men’s Club.

Collins is survived by children, Catherine A. Collins and her partner, Jack Klaus of Lincoln, Mass., Sharon C. Miller (Fred) of Redding, Timothy L. Collins (Katherine) of Raleigh, N.C., and Brian P. Collins (Vicki) of Southbury; sister, Ellen Sklar; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Anna Lyons Collins; son, John J. “Jay” Collins; daughter, Mary Ellen Gregory; and sister, Marie Belford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk. Burial will be Thursday, May 16 at 10 a.m. at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk.

In lieu of flowers donations in Collins’s name may be made to St. Jerome Church.
