John Francis Caddell, 89, Worked For Vanderbilt Chemical In Norwalk

WESTPORT, Conn. - John Francis (“Jack”) Caddell of Westport died Thursday, Oct. 24. He was 89.

Caddell was born Oct. 19, 1924. He grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and immigrated to the United States in 1953. He had lived in Norwalk, New Canaan and most recently, Westport.

He worked at Vanderbilt Chemical Co. in Norwalk before starting a long career selling cars at Sabye and Harford Buick, eventually spending many years at Griffin Ford in New Canaan and Stamford Motors.

After retiring from the car business, he embarked on a 20-year-long second career as soccer coach for a legion of youth soccer teams, both boys and girls, in New Canaan. He also worked part-time at West School in New Canaan. He was a longtime member of Assumption Church in Westport.

Caddell is survived by his wife, Anne; children, John M., of Camp Hill, Pa., and Maureen, of Framingham, Mass.; four brothers and sisters in Ireland; two grandchildren; and countless nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Assumption, 98 Riverside Ave., Westport. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave., Norwalk.
