Jasper B. Jones, 78, Of Norwalk, Worked In The Construction Field

NORWALK, Conn. - Jasper B. Jones, Sr. of Norwalk died Thursday, Oct. 17. He was 78.

Jones was born Sept. 11, 1935, in Garnett, S.C., to Virgil and Wilhelmina Reed Jones. He was a lifelong resident of Norwalk. He was a charter member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church and was one of the first elected trustees. He served as chairman of the Trustees Board for many years. He was fundamental in the construction and the legacy of the St James Missionary Baptist Church. He spent over 45 years in the construction field as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of Local 478.

Jones is survived by his son, Jasper B. Jones Jr. (Charlotte) of Fairfield; daughters, Ethel McClain (Preston) and Ollie Perez both of Norwalk; brothers, Johnnie Lee and Curtis; sisters, Frances Pinkney, Pauline Walker, and Lillian Jones all of South Carolina; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Effie Williams Jones; brothers, Johnnie and Tommie; and sisters, Tina and Dorothy.

Calling hours are Friday, Oct. 25 from 4 p.m. at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 60 Rockland Road, Norwalk, until the time of the service at 6 p.m. at the church. Interment will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at Riverside Cemetery.
