James Kenneth Campbell, 73, Of Norwalk, Army Veteran

NORWALK, Conn. - James “Jim C” Kenneth Campbell of Norwalk died Nov. 25. He was 73.

Campbell was born Aug. 4, 1940, to Douglas and Isabella Campbell in Glasgow, Scotland. He graduated from Saint Gerard’s High School in June 1955. He immigrated to the United States with his mother and brother, Alistair, in 1957 and joined the U.S. Army in June 1959. He was discharged in June 1963, with the rank of sergeant E5, having last served in a Recon unit.

Upon his return to civilian life, he pursued a career in horticulture and attended Westchester Community College. He took on several studies at the New York Botanical Gardens over his career. He went on to pursue a career in horticulture, eventually becoming an estate manager, working for some of the finest estates in Greenwich, Westport and Pocantico Hills, N.Y. He was a life time member of VFW Post 399 in Westport, Veterans Honor Guard attached to American Legion Post 12 and VFW Post 399, and also a lifetime member of the 9th District Veterans Club in Glenville.

Campbell is survived by his wife, Ellen “Carmel” Campbell; brother, Alistair Campbell; sister, Brenda (Bob) Henry; son, Aran (Marie) Campbell; daughter, Charlotte Pennella; and three grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Calling hours are Friday, Nov. 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 30, at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Ave., Norwalk. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave., Norwalk.
