James D. Ryan, 83, Of Norwalk, Worked For Somerset Importers

WEST YARMOUTH, Mass. - James D. Ryan of West Yarmouth, Mass. died June 11. He was 83.

Ryan was born July 5, 1929,  in Norwalk; son of Edward and Ada Ryan. He attended Norwalk High School, served in the Naval Reserve, and then worked in the research laboratory at Nash Engineering on fighter plane engines. He spent most of his professional life in the beverage industry. He started with Grand Spirits in Norwalk and finished his career as a sales representative for Somerset Importers, now part of the Diageo corporation. He lived with his family in Fairfield for over 20 years where he was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish; serving on the Men's League, the Bowling League, and as an usher. He was also a Little League coach. He moved to Cape Cod in 1984 shortly after he retired.

Ryan is survived by his wife, Barbara Ryan; son, James, Jr of Paoli, Pa.; daughter, Robin of Fairfield; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; and son, Dennis.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 21 at 10:00 a.m, at St. Pius X Church, Station Avenue, South Yarmouth.
