Jakob K. Soyland, 84, Former Norwalk Resident

SANDY HOOK, Conn. - Jakob K. Soyland of Sandy Hook, formerly of Norwalk, died May 6. He was 84.

Soyland was born in Norway and served in the Norwegian German Brigade #492 in Germany in 1949. He emigrated to the United States in 1955. He settled in Norwalk with his family and lived there for 37 years. He was a master carpenter and co owner of Scandinavian Carpentry until his retirement.

Soyland is survived by his wife, Ellen; children, Tore (Ellen) of Grimstad, Norway, Marie (Mickey) of Clearwater, Fla., John (Leslie) of Norwalk, Kenneth (Susan) of Brookfield, June (George) of Monroe, Steven (Patricia) of Southport; 13 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Lars and Johanne Soyland; and brothers, Otto and Leif of Lista, Norway.

Calling hours are Friday, May 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Saturday, May 10 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Ave., Norwalk.
