Imre Janos Istvan, 81, Of Norwalk

NORALK, Conn. -- Longtime Norwalk resident Imre Janos Istvan, 81, passed away July 21, 2015, in his home.

Istvan was born June 16, 1934, in Budapest, Hungary on June 16, 1934. He was the son of the late Balin Istvan and Maria Jambor Sipka.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughter Pamela Miranda and granddaughter Phoebe, as well as a host of relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his sons John and Laszlo; sister Klara Istvan Tasnadi; step-father Pal Sipka and son-in-law Moises Miranda III.

Istvan was educated in Budapest, Hungary, where he began studies in engineering. He was a competitive swimmer and water polo player. As a member of the Hungarian swim team in Budapest, he won many medals in competitions.

After moving to the United States from Vienna, Austria, he started Imre Istvan Painting and Contracting. He enjoyed putting the final touch of beauty to new homes in New Canaan, Darien and Westport for more than 40 years.

He enjoyed cooking, gardening, the company of family and friends, and the music of Frank Sinatra.

A celebration of life honoring Istvan will be conducted at a future date.
