Herbert N. Shohet, 90, Of Norwalk, Past Commander, Nowalk Power Squadron

BETHEL, Conn. - Herbert N. Shohet of Bethel died Saturday, Aug. 10. He was 90.

Shohet was born July 22, 1923, in Boston, Mass., son of Rabbi David M. and Helen C. Shohet of Yonkers, N.Y. He graduated from Yonkers High School and held a Bachelors degree in Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, and a Masters degree in advanced engineering from Yale University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

He was employed as an aeronautical engineer at Sikorsky Aircraft, retiring in 1992 after 42 years. He held several patents for the design and development of numerous helicopter engine components. He was a past commander of the Norwalk Power Squadron. He was a past officer and trustee of Congregation Beth El in Norwalk where he was a member for over 50 years.

Shohet is survived by his daughters, Susan Bai (Larry) of Nevada, Barbara Greenhouse of Bethel; two granddaughters; two great grandchildren; step-daughter, Robin Bogdan of Norwalk; four step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his wives, Yvette Stone Shohet and Jeannette Sokolow Shohet; brother, Bob Shaw; and sister, Judy Gordon.

Services will be held Monday, Aug. 12 at 11 a.m. in Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk. Burial with full military honors will follow in Beth El Memorial Park Cemetery, Richards Ave., Norwalk.
