Gerald Snider, 79, Longtime Norwalk Resident

NORWALK, Conn. – Gerald "Gerry" H. Snider of Norwalk died Aug. 14 after a battle with cancer. He was 79.

Born Jan. 8, 1933, in Newark, N.J., he was the son of Benjamin and Edith Snider. After receiving a master's degree in physics, Snider began a career working as a product design engineer.

He worked for several firms, most notably GE, where he held a patent for a design on a hair dryer accessory. He then changed careers and worked in business forms sales, which ultimately led to the creation of his own business, GRI Inc.

A resident of Norwalk for 47 years, Snider was involved in community service. He was a frequent contributor to several charities and served as president of the Norwalk chapter of Kiwanis.

Snider was married for 47 years to Rita Snider, who predeceased him. He enjoyed playing tennis and was an accomplished builder of ship models and trains. He loved listening to classical music and building and tinkering with hi-fi stereos.

He is survived by two sons, Brian (Mary) Snider, of Trumbull, and Stephen (Kelly) Snider, of Cave Creek, Ariz., a brother, Alan Snider, of Clifton, N.J.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Smilow Cancer Hospital, Office of Development, P.O. Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508.
