George Alan Wyland, 87, Former Rowayton Resident

WILTON, Conn. - George Alan Wyland, of Wilton and formerly of Rowayton and Rowe, Mass., died Nov. 7. He was 87.

Wyland was born July 13, 1927, in New York City, to Martha R. Shultz Wyland and George Gilbert Wyland. He served with the amphibious service in the Pacific, in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a commissioner in the Boy Scouts of America for 10 years. He had served in a number of capacities in The United Church of Rowayton, including Sunday school teaching; property, finance, household concerns and deacons committees and as lay leader/moderator. He retired as a supervisor after 35 years with the Nash Engineering Company, in 1995.

Wyland is survived by his sons, Scott A. Wyland (Michelle) and Clifford W. Wyland (Amy) of Bend, Ore.; daughters, Martha E. Wyland (J. Edwin) of Sublimity, Ore., and Laura L. Donnelly of Easthampton, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; sister, Catherine L. Smith (Steven) Silverman of New York City. He was predeceased by his wife Florence Ewing Bates Wyland; and sister, Barbara A. Broad.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 at the United Church of Rowayton. The Reverend John Livingston will be officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Garden at the United Church of Rowayton.
