Frederick Santarella, 73, Norwalk Native, Husband Of Former Selectman

DARIEN, Conn. — Frederick J. Santarella, 73, a longtime Darien resident, died June 30. He was 73.

His wife, Linda Santarella, is a former selectman in Darien. 

Frederick Santarella, a Norwalk native, was born March 24, 1944, to Carmine and Mary (LaMalfa) Santarella. In 1962, he graduated from Norwalk High School, where he was a member of the baseball team and captain of the basketball team. 

He earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Hartford.

Santarella ran a home improvements business in Darien for 20 years. He also worked for Wagner Swimming Pools in Darien and A&D Quality Roofing in Norwalk.

He married Linda Saverine on Oct. 3, 1970, and they raised their children, Stacey and Daniel, in Darien. 

Santarella coached Daniel and his teammates for several seasons of baseball and basketball. 

He enjoyed sports and continued to play softball with the Aces in Norwalk for many years. He also enjoyed golfing. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved comedy. He immensely enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Santarella is survived by his wife, Linda, and son, Daniel, of Darien; son-in-law Brian Hickey and grandchildren Sean and Evangeline of Valhalla, N.Y.; brother Daniel Santarella and his wife Patty of Norwalk; nephew Scott (Kathy) Santarella of Westport; and niece Dana (Kevin) Morton of Norwalk. He is predeceased by his daughter, Stacey.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home at 2119 Boston Post Road, Darien. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 6, at noon at St. John's Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
