Francis Camps-Campins, 80, Norwalk Engineer

NORWALK, Conn. – Francis Michael Camps-Campins, a longtime Norwalk resident, died Sept. 21 at his home in Surf City, N.C., while holding his wife's hand. He was 80.

He was born Nov. 15, 1931, in Cambridge, Mass., to Francisco and Doreen Pereira Camps-Campins, both formerly of Port of Spain, Trinidad. He was married to Yvette Gioannetti Camps-Campins.

He grew up in New York City and graduated from De La Salle Academy. He continued his education at Columbia University before serving three years as a Naval officer during the Korean War.

Camps-Campins then completed his education at New York University, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He spent most of his adult life in Norwalk before retiring to Surf City in 1999.

A professional engineer for more than 40 years, Camps-Campins also served on local planning boards, civic associations and councils. He was also a member of Episcopal Church. Nothing was more important to him than his family.

Camps-Campins is survived by his wife of 59 years, Yvette; two daughters, Julie Avellino, of Surf City, and Jennifer (Richard) Alexander, of Fairfield; two sons, Christian, of Surf City, and Derek (Cheryl), of Wakefield, Mass.; a sister, Mary Doreen (Albert) DeLima, of Wayne, N.J.; and seven grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Holly Ridge, N.C.
