WALLINGFORD, Conn. - Elizabeth "Betty" Lincoln Hatch White, 90, of Wallingford, formerly of Norwalk, died Wednesday, Aug. 27.

She was born in Hartford to Virgil Baldwin Hatch and Eliza Lincoln Ferriss Hatch on Friday, June 20, 1924.

She was the salutatorian of Bulkeley High School Class of 1942. She graduated from the Teachers College of Connecticut (now Central Connecticut State University) in December 1945. Later, she attended the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. She taught English and social studies at Berlin High School, and fourth grade in Middletown for four years.

She married Abbott W. White in 1950. They had four children and settled in Norwalk, where she was active in her children’s classrooms and Scout troops.

She was a very active member of Grace Episcopal Church, including teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, president of the Women’s Guild, member of the Vestry, member of prayer groups, and keeping in touch with members who were shut-in.

In addition to her husband of 64 years, she is survived by her daughters Margaret Phillips (Abe) of Forest, Va., Janice White of Litchfield, Joan Tangney of Wallingford; her son David White (Kathleen) of Durham; grandchildren Jonathan Phillips (Marie), Deborah Vereen (Morris), Benjamin Mager (Mariah), Daniel Mager, Michael Tangney (Jennifer), Melissa Tangney, and Jeffrey White (Jenny); great-grandchildren Hunter and Brandon Phillips, and Aurora, Kiera, and Tristan Mager. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Kenneth White, and his family.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Charles B. Hatch; sister-in-law Beatrice White; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Alton and Lucy White; son-in-law Alfred Tangney; and infant granddaughter Elizabeth Mager.

Calling hours will be 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave. Norwalk, followed by a service there at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Diana M. Rogers will officiate. Interment will be at Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport.
