Elizabeth Anne McGehee, 85, Former Resident Of Norwalk, Bilingual Secretary

NORWALK, Conn. - Elizabeth Anne McGehee, formerly a longtime resident of Norwalk, died Nov.29. She was 85.

McGehee was born Dec. 27, 1928, in San José, Costa Rica, to Henry and Ana Keith. She grew up and attended grammar school in San José, Costa Rica. Later the family moved to Short Hills, N.J., where she attended Kent Place School. She then moved to Texas where she graduated from a boarding school in San Antonio. Upon graduation she moved back to Costa Rica where she worked as a bilingual secretary at the U.S. Embassy and later American Home Products.

After her marriage she moved with her husband to Norwalk and raised her family. She returned to work, serving as a bilingual secretary, providing translation services for various Fairfield County companies including Gaither International. She later worked for Technoserve, a non-profit organization providing business building assistance to countries struggling with poverty. During these years, she also attended college to earn her degree, and in 1978 received a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in psychology and political science from Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport.

She was active within the New Horizon’s Group of St. Matthew Parish in Norwalk, volunteered at the Darien Library, and was treasurer of the Darien Community Association.

McGehee is survived by her children, Mark (Sabrina) McGehee of Wilton, Leslie (Robert) Woods of Gales Ferry, Susan (Walter) Brickowski of Manasquan, N.J., Robert (Nina) McGehee of Bethlehem, Pa.; sister, Elsa Ferris, both of San José, Costa Rica; and 10 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Alice Arguedas.

Private services will be held at St. Matthew Parish in Norwalk and St Johns Cemetery in Norwalk.
