Elizabeth Ann Giglio, 74, Of Norwalk, Worked For Burndy Corporation

PLYMOUTH, Mass. - Elizabeth (“Betty”) Ann Giglio of Plymouth died Wednesday, July 17. She was 74.

Giglio was born Oct. 30, 1938, in Stamford, Conn., to George and Margaret Lyle Fleming. She grew up in Stamford, attending St. John’s Academy through ninth grade and graduating from Sacred Heart Academy in 1956. She graduated from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven in 1960, and later received her master’s in theology from Fordham University. She was a longtime resident of Stamford, Darien, and Norwalk, and most recently made her home in both Naples, Fla., and Plymouth, Mass..

In the first years after college, Giglio worked at the Burndy Corporation in Norwalk, Conn. In 1965, after marriage, she moved with her family to Scotland, and then on to Italy and England, before returning to Stamford in 1969. From 1977 to 1994, they lived in Darien. She worked for many years as the director of adult education for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport.

She sang in the choir at St. Thomas More Church in Darien, served as a eucharistic minister at St. Bonaventure Parish in Plymouth, and was active in the adult education program at St. Peter the Apostle in Naples. In 2011, she was ordained a Dame of the Order of Malta. She and her husband were longtime members of the Country Club of Darien and The Classics Country Club in Naples.

Giglio is survived by her husband, Anthony (“Tony”) Joseph Giglio of Naples and Plymouth; daughters, Cindy Giglio of Norwalk, Sharon Giglio of Fairfield County, Katherine (John) Sullivan of Naples, Fla., and Lisa (J.D.) Connor of Woodbridge; sisters, Geraldine (Al) Bomwell of Seneca, S.C., and Roberta Fleming of Stamford; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; brother, George Fleming of Stamford; and sister, Lois (Philip) Church of Manchester Center, Vt.

Calling hours are Wednesday, July 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home, 5 East Wall St., Norwalk. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 25 at St. Aloysius Parish, 21 Cherry St., New Canaan. A private interment will take place Friday, July 26 at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
