Edward McGuinness,83, Of Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. – Edward J. McGuinness, 83, husband of Jeanette McCallum McGuinness and the late Rose Shimko McGuinness, died Sunday, March 1.

Born April 18, 1931, in the Bronx, N.Y., to the late John and Agnes McGuinness, he grew up in Norwalk and attended local parochial schools before joining the U.S. Navy in 1950.

After his service in the Navy, he was an engineer for several local companies, where he was most proud of his work on the Polaris missile project and the Mercury space program. He was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, a past local and state president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, a member of several local veteran and civic organizations, including a founding member of the Norwalk Meals on Wheels and he was an active parishioner of St. Matthew’s Church.

He is survived by his three daughters, Tracey Terenzi, Robin McGuinness and Karen Caiati; six stepchildren, Margaret Carlson, Douglas McCallum, Mary Beth Isaacs, Russell McCallum, Robert McCallum and Michael McCallum; four grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and several step grandchildren.

Calling hours will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew’s Church, 216 Scribner Ave., Norwalk. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Richards Ave., Norwalk.
