NORWALK, Conn. Dr. Frank Serena, a longtime Norwalk resident, died June 18 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 100.
An orthopedic surgeon, Serena served as head of orthopedics at Norwalk Hospital.
Born May 18, 1912, in Yonkers, N.Y., he was son of Albert R. Serena. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II as head of orthopedics in France and Germany. Serena was passionate about the outdoors, as well as painting and playing the piano.
Serena is survived by his wife, Ruth Calkins Serena, of Redding; a son, Frank Alexander Serena Jr., of New Haven and Florida; and a stepdaughter, Melissa Calkins Frank and husband Lawrence, of Wilton. He was predeceased by his first wife, Florida Ann Russo Serena; and a brother, Dr. John M. Serena.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m Wednesday at Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Norwalk. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Norwalk.
