NORWALK, Conn. – Doris May Passeck Riedell, formerly of Norwalk, died Jan. 4 at Connecticut Hospice after a prolonged illness. She was 88.

She was born May 2, 1924, to Martin and Lena Passeck in Norwalk, where she lived most of her life. She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1941 and joined the Navy WAVES in 1944, serving almost two years. She was assigned to the communications area at the Pentagon.

In 1946 she married George Dorney Riedell. She and her husband raised two sons and a daughter in Norwalk. They enjoyed many celebrations and get-togethers with extended family and friends.

She enjoyed shopping and would share shopping tips with her daughter and nieces, and later with customers at Cuthbertson's Christmas store, where she worked in sales. Riedell and her husband also enjoyed traveling.

Riedell is survived by two sons, Brien Riedell and his partner, Douglas Deveny, of Essex, Conn., and Glenn (Sheila) Riedell of Fairfield; a daughter, Deborah (Robert) Burlando of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Mary Hoggson of Norwalk; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Magner Funeral Home in Norwalk. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Norwalk. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
