Donna Maykut, 69, Former Norwalk Teacher

WESTPORT, Conn. – Donna J. Maykut, a Westport native and former Norwalk teacher, died of cancer on Jan. 11 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was 69.

Born Dec. 22, 1943, and raised in Westport, she was the daughter of Donald "Red" and Aline Lomme. She graduated from Staples High School in 1962.

Her first husband, Kenneth Maykut, died in 1998.

She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Eastern Kentucky and a master's degree from the University of Bridgeport. A retired teacher, she taught throughout Connecticut.

Maykut taught at Tracey Elementary School and Wolfpit School in Norwalk from 1988 to 1989 and Roton Middle School in Norwalk from 1989 to 1994.

She also taught at Franklin Elementary School and Harding High School in Bridgeport, Melissa Jones Elementary School in Guilford, Conn., Watertown High School in Watertown, Conn., East Shore Middle School in Milford, Conn., and Grovetown Elementary School and Tubman Middle School in Georgia.

Maykut also taught classes at the University of New Haven and Voorhees College in South Carolina.

She was most recently a resident of Milford, Conn., and was married to Alexander Guthrie, who survives.

She is also survived by two sons, Kenneth Maykut, of Norwalk, and Jeb Stewart Maykut, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two stepdaughters, Michele Noble, of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and Meredith Lodge, of Unionville, Conn.; two brothers, Peter Lomme and Terrence Lomme; a sister-in-law, Bette Lomme; a niece, and three grandchildren.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, at Cody-White Funeral Home in Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at St. Mary's Church in Milford. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Stratford, Conn.
