Charlotte Mapp Jordan, 100, Of Norwalk, Home Care Attendant

NORWALK, Conn. – Charlotte Mapp Jordan, 100, of Norwalk, died Monday, April 27.

She was born May 1, 1914, in Camden, S.C., to the late Dinah Baskin Thompson and Wesley James.

Jordan worked for the Notre Dame Convalescent Home in Norwalk for about 50 years until she retired. She then became a home care attendant.

She was a longtime member of Canaan Institutional Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir.

Survivors include three sons, Sam Thompson and Thomas “Speedy” Mapp, both of Norwalk, Hayward “Buddy” (Jackie) Mapp of Wilkes Barre, Pa.; two daughters, Ruth (Eugene) Bember of Ciccolo, Tex. and Helen “Kitty” (Andrew) Robinson Of Norwalk; two honorary daughters, Deborah “Debbie” Odom of Norfolk, Va. and Vivian “Bookie” Sumpter of Norwalk; 24 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was predeceased by two husbands, George Mapp and Gene Jordan; three daughters, Almeta “Gracie” Thompson, Eloise Thompson, and Elizabeth Thompson; three brothers, John Thompson, Levi Thompson, and Tommy Thompson; and five sisters, Sally “Mud” Oliver, Rose Coleman, Ada “Noonie” McClendon, Dinah “Coot” Bracey, and Catherine “Cat” Brooks.

Calling hours will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at Canaan Institutional Baptist Church, 31 Concord St., Norwalk.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the church.

Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Ave., Norwalk.
