The 20-year-old fondly remembered his father, Steven Dym, his 50-year-old mother Loretta and 18-year-old sister Caroline, who was a high school student in Greenwich, according to multiple reports.
“He was my hero, no matter what the circumstances,” William said of his father at the service Wednesday. “No matter what the circumstances, my love for him is everlasting.”
When speaking of his mother, William said, “(she) was the most caring and hardworking person I ever knew,” he said. “No one worked harder than she did. She helped my father provide for our family.”
He called Caroline, 18, “the best sister I could have asked for," according to the New York Post. “She truly was the most bright and happy girl I ever knew.”
Caroline was a senior and a golf standout at Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich.
The murder-suicide happened while William was away at college in California. Steven Dym, a Manhattan real estate executive, was facing financial trouble and stood accused of embezzling money from several residential properties he managed before the shooting, according to media reports.
Shortly after 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, state police troopers and the Pound Ridge Police Department went to investigate a possible suicide at the Dym family's home in Pound Ridge. Upon arrival, officers found all three dead inside the residence.
Dym killed his wife and daughter with a single shot each to the midsection with a 12-gauge shotgun before shooting himself in the head, police said. The Westchester County Medical Examiner’s office officially ruled his death as a suicide.
Dym had several active civil lawsuits against him, claiming that he had stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars from properties he managed, according to People. He had recently come into financial problems, having put the family’s 4,600-square-foot home, valued at more than $1.5 million, on the market.
