Berdella ‘Peaches’ Mungo White, 56, Of Bridgeport, Community Activist

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Berdella ‘Peaches’ Mungo White, 56, of Bridgeport, died Saturday, March 28.

She was born Oct. 14, 1958, in Manning, S.C., to Betty R. and the late David Mungo.

White was active in many community organizations, including the Norwalk Branch NAACP, Norwalk Economic Opportunity Now, ACORN, and Norwalk Weed and Seed.

She was president of the Colonial Village Resident’s Council for many years, and a member of the New Light Missionary Baptist Church.

She received numerous awards for her community service, including a Celebrate Women Award for Outstanding Community Service and a Civilian Recognition Certificate from the Norwalk Police Department.

Survivors in addition to her mother include one son, Jermaine Mungo; one daughter, Betty “Natasha” Mungo White; three brothers, David (Jessie) Mungo Sr., Louis (Glynis) Mungo, and Dewayne Palmer; three grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at the Canaan Institutional Baptist Church, 31 Concord St., South Norwalk.

Magner Funeral Home, Norwalk, is handling the arrangements.
