Allison M. Bailey, 89, Longtime Norwalk Resident, Clinical Instructor

NORWALK, Conn. - Allison M. Bailey, a resident of Norwalk for many years, died June 27. She was 89.

Bailey was born Jan. 11, 1925, she was the daughter of Lillian Sarah Hopkins and Charles Mason Bailey. She was a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. and a graduate of the Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing. She completed a program of study in Operating Room Techniques and Management at N.Y. Polyclinic Hospital and Medical Center. She was supervisor of operating rooms and a clinical instructor at Norwalk Hospital for 10 years and earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Columbia University.

She pursued post-graduate study at Fairfield University. She was appointed as the first faculty member of the first Associate Degree Nursing Program established in Connecticut at the University of Bridgeport, retiring from that institution as associate dean of the College of Health Sciences. She was a member of The National League for Nursing, was an accreditation site visitor for that organization. She was also president of the Connecticut League for Nursing, a member of the Governor’s Commission to the Statewide Health Coordinating Council, member of the Board of Directors of Mid-Fairfield Hospice Inc., Board Member of the HMO Connecticut Health Plan and Board Member of Southwestern Connecticut Health Systems Agency.

Bailey is survived by her niece, Beverly Foote and Cathy Loeza; nephews, Robert Bailey, William Hurley, Charles Bailey and Michael Bailey; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her companion, Dr. John Serena; sister, Margaret Mason Hurley; brothers, Charles Mason Bailey and Robert Bailey; and nieces, Dolores Bailey Patterson and Allison Bailey Burritt.
