Allan DiGirolamo, 87, Former Norwalk WWII Veteran

NORWALK, Conn. – Allan "Al" Joseph DiGirolamo, a former resident of Norwalk, died suddenly on July 21. He was 87. 

DiGirolamo was born April 24, 1925, in Spangler, Pa., to Joseph and Mary DiGirolamo. He graduated from Norwalk High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945, based in the Philippines during World War II. 

A former Teamsters Local 191 steward, DiGirolamo retired from Peckham Industries in 1989. Outside of work, he loved working on machinery, engines and in his garden. His annual tomato harvest was always eagerly awaited by his family. He was most recently a resident of North Potomac, Md., where he lived with family for the last few years. 

DiGirolamo is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann DiGirolamo; a daughter, Mary Ann (Warren) Lanning; a sister, Margaret Febbraio; two grandsons; a nephew and a niece.

He was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Richardson; and a brother, Dante DiGirolamo. 

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at Magner Funeral Home in Norwalk. A funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Cremation was performed in North Potomac.
