NORWALK, Conn. – Alberta Kealey, 93, died on Monday, Feb. 23.
Born in 1922 and raised in Waverly, Va., Kealey moved to Richmond, Va., after high school to attend secretarial school and then moved to Washington, D.C., where she lived for seven years working for the War Department and, later, for IBM. It was in Washington at a state dance where she met her future husband, Warren, then a student at Georgetown Law School.
The couple moved to Norwalk, where they spent the next 50 years raising a family of four and taking active roles in civic and church affairs.
Kealey was president of the Rosary Society at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, served as a Eucharistic minister, took Communion to the home bound and volunteered at the soup kitchen.
While raising their children, she worked for Smith Klein Inc., Pelletreau & Kealey law firm, Brien McMahon High School as a teacher’s aide and Triple S Carpet & Drapery Cleaners.
She sang in church choirs, took courses at Norwalk Community College, reupholstered furniture, made her daughter’s dresses, was a good cook and accompanied her husband to the opera more times than she could count.
She was predeceased by her husband, daughters Suzanne and Judith; and son-in-law, Emmanuel.
She is survived by two sisters; sons Craig and Scott, and their wives Diane and Laura; son-in-law Edward; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Ave., Norwalk.
