William George, 61, Youth Sports Coach

William Richard George , 61, an active community member, died recently at his home. George was born in Norwalk and had worked for SNET for 26 years and the Norwalk Police Department for 13 years. He ended his working years where he began, at Smitty's. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, a union representative at SNET, president of Babe Ruth and commissioner of the Norwalk Athletic Association. He coached softball, football and biddy basketball. George enjoyed tag sales, old cars, sports, race cars, golf and fishing, as well as the Oysterfest, Wildwood and Playland. He enjoyed working in the yard and making things in "Papa Bud's cellar." He was a painter and handyman who enjoyed his newspaper and morning coffee. He enjoyed helping others and making them laugh.

He is survived by wife of 41 years, Christina; his father, Bud; his children, April Bryant and her husband, Rick, Christy George-Tottenham (Pat), Kellee George-Abdelwahab and her husband, Osama, and Amanda Diurno and her husband, Mario; his sisters, many nieces, nephews and great-nieces, and his best friend, Ed Terry.
