What’s Open/Closed In Norwalk For New Year’s Day

NORWALK, Conn. – The following is guide to what’s open and closed in Norwalk this New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Norwalk City Hall will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve and will be closed New Year’s Day.

The United States Postal Service will close at noon Monday and will re-open Wednesday.

Most area banks will be open Monday and closed Tuesday. Check with your individual institution.

The Norwalk and South Norwalk libraries will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve and will be closed New Year’s Day. Both will re-open at noon Wednesday.

Bowtie Cinemas on North Main Street and Westport Avenue will be open regular hours New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

The Maritime Aquarium will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. The attraction is offering a special New Year's Eve package in conjunction with the Norwalk Doubletree by Hilton for families. For $169, two adults and two children can stay at the hotel and receive an all-day visit and guided tour of the aquarium and a screening of "The Polar Express" in IMAX, among other treats. Best Buy, Marshalls, Barnes & Noble and many other stores throughout the city will be open for regular or slightly abbreviated hours New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Check with individual stores and their websites for more information.

Stew Leonard’s will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. New Year’s Eve and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. New Year’s Day.

There will not be any city garbage or recycling pick up Tuesday. For residents with normal pick up on Tuesdays, their items and debris will be picked up Saturday.

The transfer station on Crescent Street will be closed Tuesday but re-open Wednesday.

Norwalk concluded all yard waste and tree debris pick up and drop off for the season Dec. 21. The city will begin that activity again April 2.

Christmas trees will be collected at the curb during the weeks of Jan. 7 and Jan. 21 in the 4th Taxing District areas that receive city garbage collection. Plastic bags, lights, ornaments and tinsel are not permitted.

The city’s yard waste site will open for Christmas tree drop off the week of Jan. 7-12, and the week of Jan. 21-26. Hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Check with the Norwalk customer service center at 203-854-3200 for more information.
