Repairs had been completed and all four lanes of traffic were once again open, police said Monday evening. But two lanes will once again be shut down for repaving.
Lanes are scheduled to be shut down Tuesday after 9 a.m. after the morning commuter rush, police said.
Drivers on Route 1 in Westport are expected to face more delays as paving work is completed, police said.
Problems began last Thursday, March 19, when a sewer main collapsed on Post Road East, causing heavy traffic delays.
But a different portion of the sewer being repaired by Westport’s Engineering Department collapsed while crews worked over the weekend, causing traffic complications again Monday morning, police said.
Crews have been working throughout Thursday, Friday and over the weekend to fix the initial break, only to have a separate section collapse in the same area by Sunday evening, according to a Westport Police press release.
Police are advising residents plan accordingly and take an alternate route.
