The strong storms carry the threat of gusty winds and hail as well as flooding, the weather service said.

An urban and small stream flood advisory is in place for poor drainage and low-lying areas of Fairfield County until 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.

A cluster of showers and thunderstorms moving through the area was producing heavy rainfall at the rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Also, streams and creeks may rise out of their banks, the weather service warned. Drivers are warned not to drive into areas where water covers the roadway. Turn around and find another route.
