Senior David Kyem of Newington is the son of geography Professor Peter Kyem, CCSU said. The investigation was continuing after Kyem was charged with breach of peace. He was to be released Monday evening on $1,000 bail bond.

Kyem was dressed in a Halloween costume after a weekend party at UConn and alarmed students Monday when he returned to the CCSU campus in costume, the Hartford Courant reported. He apologized and called the incident, which sparked calls to 911 and a massive police presence on campus, a misunderstanding.

The other two students taken into police custody earlier were reportedly his roommates. Read the full story here at the Hartford Courant.

Original story: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Three "people of interest" who are "of student age" were in custody after an incident that caused a lockdown for more than three hours on the campus of Central Connecticut State University on Monday, officials said.

Police said at a press conference that there was never any real threat to students, no one was injured and no shots fired were ever reported.

"In this situation, our prayers were answered," CCSU President Jack Miller said. "Certainly there have been many other situations that didn't conclude in this way. Students, faculty, staff -- everybody was brave and they were calm."

Miller credited the school's precautionary systems with bringing the matter to "a swift conclusion."

New Britain police received multiple 911 calls late Monday morning of a person or persons in camouflage walking onto campus with a "sword-like" weapon and possibly a handgun. The suspect then entered the James Hall dormitory by swiping a card at the security entrance.

New Britain Chief of Police Chris Cervoni said no weapons have been recovered as of yet, and no charges had been filed as of the time of the late afternoon press conference.

The suspects were taken into custody without any struggles.

“I want to commend state and local law enforcement for their quick response," Gov. Dannel Malloy said in a statement. "While there was no act of violence today, the actions taken once these reports came in are exactly why it is so important to say something if you see something. Unfortunately, incidents like these will occur, but today showed us the ideal way for them to conclude – with no one seriously harmed.”

Authorities from Central Connecticut State University Campus Police, New Britain Police, West Hartford Police, Connecticut State Police, FBI and the Department of Homeland Security were on the scene.

The school updated students regarding the incident throughout the afternoon using Twitter and e-mail alerts.
