FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- About 22,000 Connecticut residents will no longer receive unemployment benefits starting Saturday after Congress went into its year-end recess without extending the program, according to Boston.com.
A total of 1.3 million Americans were on emergency unemployment insurance, which pays about $327 per week. That benefit has now expired.
Connecticut's unemployment rate is currently 7.6 percent, a bit above the national rate of 7 percent.
