Trio Charged With Stealing Packages in Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk woman coming down the stairs to pick up a delivery on her back porch Friday afternoon saw a man taking it, according to Norwalk Police. Officers stopped the red Volkswagen Beetle the woman described and arrested three men. The trio is accused of stealing deliveries from at least three Norwalk residents. Police are still working to find the owners of the belongings found in the car.

The resident of Truman Street came home at 3 p.m. Friday and saw a delivery she had been waiting for her on the back porch, according to Sgt. Bruce Hume. She went inside and was halfway back down the stairs to get it when she saw a man in a knitted ski cap picking it up. She struggled to unlock her door and get it open, and when she did he said, "Are you ---- crazy? What are you doing?" He ran across the street and got into the passenger side of the Beetle, which drove east, toward Norwalk Hospital.

The man had stolen 40 pounds of rice the woman paid Amazon $54.96 to get, according to Hume.

Police stopped the vehicle at North and France, Hume said. The victim identified the car and Everette Grant, 26, of 12 N. Taylor Ave., an occupant. Casmore Jones, 27, and Earl Ledgister, 27, both of Bridgeport, were also in the car, police say.

Police also found three items purchased at Macy's and meant to be gifts for a Nash Place woman, items meant for a North Taylor avenue woman and other things, some of which had no names on them. Other alleged stolen items in the car included a Calvin Klein leather domed duffle handbag, an MLCS 15-piece router bit set, a black ink pen, a black date book, four beige BMW floor mats, a big display calculator and a white set of nurses scrubs.

The men were charged with first-degree criminal trespass, conspiracy and fourth-degree larceny. Each was held on $5,000 bond.

Correction made, 1:20 p.m. Tuesday.
