The state grant was approved during a special meeting of the State Bond Commission.

“This funding is absolutely critical to preserving the Maritime Aquarium as one of Connecticut’s premiere educational destinations,” Duff said in a press release.

“The aquarium contributes millions to our local and state economies and is a top tourist spot for the state. This is a smart investment that will maintain the aquarium as an economic driver in Norwalk for years to come.”

The $2 million grant will help finance renovations such as electrical, mechanical, and fire safety improvements.

It will also help with IMAX theater upgrades and renovations to several tanks and other types of existing exhibits.

“We are ecstatic and appreciative of all the support provided by Senator Duff, Governor Malloy and all of the members of our state delegation for their advocacy,” said Brian Davis, Maritime Aquarium president and chief executive officer, in a press release.

“We will utilize the support to ensure that the facility continues to serve the growing number of visitors to our unique facility. We are truly appreciative and gracious.”
