Department of Transportation officials said the $25 million project will take place along with a project to resurface a section of the highway and rebuild a median east of the bridge. Bidding on the work should begin in 2017, with construction starting in 2018, said the Connecticut Post.

The bridge, which averages about 150,000 vehicles a day, received a "poor" grade during a recent inspection. Once underway, the work will include new guardrails and median, added the Connecticut Post.
